LTL Trucking Grew by 11.6% in 2011

The less-than-truckload transportation industry grew 11.6% in 2011, pushing total U.S. LTL revenue past $30 billion for the first time since the recession. 

Total LTL trucking revenue in the U.S. rose from $27.5 billion in 2010 to $30.6 billion last year, according to a study by SJ Consulting Group in Pittsburgh. According to the study, last year LTL revenue among the top 25 LTL carriers (ranked by LTL revenue alone) ranged from $4.7 billion at FedEx Freight to $137 million at Wilson Trucking. YRC Freight reported an 11.6% spurt in LTL sales to $3.2 billion, the study said.
